A Study on the Factors Influencing Death Anxiety: Examination of Impact of Family Function, Spiritual Well-Being and Ego-Integrity

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship among death anxiety, family function, spiritual well-being and ego-integrity comprehensively and suggest effective intervention to death anxiety in the elderly. Survey was carried out for 248 persons aged 65 or above who are living in Seoul and Kyung-gi province. To analyze the study model, structural equation modeling was used. The results of this study are as follows: First, the study model fitness shows reasonable fit. Second, ego-integrity mediates the relation between family function and death anxiety fully. Third, spiritual well-being does not mediate the relation between family function and death anxiety, but it has mediating effect between family function and ego-integrity partially. This finding suggests that to treat death anxiety effectively, integrative perspective considering both family and spiritual factors is necessary, and moreover, through this process, inspiration of ego-integrity as a key factor to death anxiety is important.
